Head Custodian

Position Summary:

The Head Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, order, and overall appearance of all First Baptist Church Forney facilities. The Head Custodian is a player-coach and will supervise and schedule part-time custodians, establish and uphold cleaning standards, and ensure that FBCF facilities are clean, safe, and ready to support ministry at all times while participating in these activities. This Head Custodian should treat this work as an act of faithful stewardship, recognizing that well-maintained facilities reflect the excellence of our worship and welcome to all who enter our doors.

Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Scheduling
Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise part-time custodial team.
Assign daily and weekly cleaning responsibilities to custodial team members.
Conduct regular check-ins and performance evaluations for the custodial team.
Foster a team culture of excellence, integrity, and servant-hearted ministry.
Coordinate custodial coverage for Sunday services, special events, weddings, funerals, and other church activities.
Report staffing needs and personnel matters to supervisory leadership.

Facility Cleaning and Maintenance
Perform and oversee daily cleaning of all church facilities including worship center, classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
Ensure all restrooms are stocked, sanitized, and maintained to a high standard throughout the week and during all services and events.
Vacuum, mop, sweep, and clean all floor surfaces on a regular schedule.
Clean and sanitize high-touch surfaces including door handles, light switches, countertops, and railings.
Remove trash and recycling from all areas of the facility on a regular basis.
Set up and break down furniture and equipment for events, services, and meetings as needed.
Perform light maintenance tasks and promptly report facility repair needs to the appropriate team.
Work with outside vendors to conduct routine cleaning facilities that are beyond the scope of the FBC Forney custodial team.

Standards and Inventory
Establish, document, and maintain cleaning checklists and standards for all areas of the facility.
Conduct regular facility walkthroughs to inspect cleanliness and identify areas needing attention.
Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment; submit purchase requests as needed.
Ensure safe storage, labeling, and use of all cleaning chemicals in compliance with safety standards.
Maintain and care for custodial equipment, reporting needed repairs or replacements.

Support the Leadership Team
Coordinate with the ministry team regarding facility needs for upcoming events.
Respond promptly to urgent facility needs and unexpected cleaning situations.
Communicate proactively with the supervisory team regarding facility conditions and custodial concerns.
Perform other tasks deemed necessary by supervisor.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires regular and sustained physical activity. The Head Custodian must be able to:
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and stoop for extended periods throughout a shift.
Push and pull custodial equipment such as mops, vacuums, and carts.
Climb ladders and work at heights as needed for cleaning and light maintenance tasks.
Work in varying environmental conditions including indoor and outdoor settings.

Qualifications:
Successful candidate must be a professing Christian who will become an active member of First Baptist Church Forney and thus in agreement with the doctrinal statements of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 as adopted by the SBC. A demonstrated dynamic personal relationship with Jesus as evidenced by salvation and a mature walk with Christ is required. Candidate must agree to live and work in accordance with the personnel policies of First Baptist Church Forney.

Experience and Skills
Prior experience in custodial, janitorial, or facilities management required.
Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
Knowledge of cleaning products, methods, and equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish, verbally, preferred.

Reports to: Director of Facilities
Hours: Full-time; schedule includes weekends and event coverage as needed
Pay Rate: Dependent on Qualifications and Experience
